The Qualified Opportunity Zones program recently created by Congress enables real estate investors and developers to realize tax benefits—and potentially greater returns—for investing in underserved communities. However, there’s a lack of clarity about how to participate due to still-evolving guidelines. How can real estate professionals capitalize on QOZs?
Our panel of knowledgeable voices will walk attendees through QOZ basics and opportunities for investors, brokers and developers. We’ll also discuss the attitudes of local Bay Area communities towards QOZs.
The panel:
Sophia Harding (moderator / panelist) is a CREW SF member and Senior Private Wealth Advisor with Umpqua Private Bank working with business owners and executives in both Oregon and California.  Sophia is a full balance sheet advisor delivering a comprehensive range of credit, banking and investment management solutions to her clients based on their vision of the future.
Stephen Wilson (panelist) is an attorney of counsel to Withers Worldwide who has 45 years of continuous experience in transactional real estate law. Much of his current professional focus is on complex, value-added urban mixed-use projects and joint ventures, with recent focus on project planning in Qualified Opportunity Zones.

Carla Pecoraro (panelist) is a CREW East Bay member and Commercial Real Estate Investment broker with Marcus and Millichap, principal with KCT Investments, business owner, and contractor in the Bay Area. Carla’s focus is to connect owners and professionals, and to create opportunity and housing for future generations.
